Yamaha MODX and MODX+ Forum • MODX7 keybed rebuild

I bought a MODX7 back in 2019 because I was tired of carrying a 46 lb. Korg KRONOS 73 to gigs, and have always preferred Yamaha piano samples anyway...I didn't like the MODX7 semi-weighted keybed very much, but COVID ended gigs around that time, and playing it at home over the past couple of years I've become used to it...

With gigs starting up again, I acquired an almost-new MODX6 to have something that took up even less space and, along with a small amp, stand, and bench in a single wheeled bag, could be moved easily in one trip...I was surprised at how much better the new keybed felt than my 5-year-old MODX7 (duh!), so I replaced the 7's felt key cushions and rubber key contact strips, and it's back to feeling and playing like the new...it's pretty easy to replace these parts, once the MODX is opened up (I'd done this a couple of times previously to clean the PWB key contact areas), I think there are Youtube videos that show how to do this...there's lots of internal cabling; be careful not to dislodge any cables or connectors as you open the top...

It's not surprising that rubber/felt components need to be replaced after 5 years; but how long are the flexible plastic hinges on the keys supposed to last?...has anybody had to replace keys and noticed any difference?...along with the ruber contacts, felt, and PWBs, that's all there is to the actual key action...
