Looking at the service manual for the PSR-E443. According to the system boot chart, this behavior may indicate a bad mainboard. (Sorry to say.)
You can initiate Test Mode by holding down C#2 F2 G#2 while pressing the STANDBY/ON switch. (That's a C# major triad.) If the keyboard doesn't go into Test Mode, well, that's very bad news.
The same trick will probably start Test Mode on the i455, too.
