A few thoughts from me.
1) Were the switches always faulty, and you would not have noticed with a dead display?
2) You may have created a bad connection somewhere, with a connector not seated properly, so i would recheck all connectors.
3) When I fitted a replacement display to my TG77, I found I had to do a bit of work to stop the display fouling diodes and the PCB, so did you have the same problem? See my TG77 Display Guide Section 6 for details
